Hanuman Temple

Hi Folks,

Another popular site is the 85 feet Hanuman murti located in the Dattatreya temple in Carapichaima.  It is the tallest Hanuman murti in the western hemisphere and second tallest in the world.   Built according to the Dravidian style, architecture of South India in 2003, it is a site to behold.  The temple itself if also very beautiful and has a meditation center.

Hanuman being one of the more popular deity within the Hindu culture, it is said he is a warrior who protects the lord’s devotees and helps them to achieve the ultimate purpose of going back to Godhead.  He came on earth during the time of Shri Ram (an avatar of the lord Vishnu) he was a warrior who helped his master Shri Ram in the epic battle against the evil king Ravan who had kidnap Ram’s wife mother Sita (the epic tale of the Ramayan).  Hanuman is the 11 incarnation of lord Shiva and it is said that at the end of the Ramayan lord Ram request that Hanuman remain on earth (while all the others returned to heaven) to protect his devotees and to visit any place where the lord’s name is being worship.

This is located en route to Waterloo so visitors can visit here on the way to the Temple in the Sea.  A point to note is most if not all visitor sites in Trinidad are free admission; tour guides do carry a fee but access to these sites and parks are all free.  This being a temple is also considered holy grounds so no alcohol, meat, foot wear inside the temple are allowed.

So apart from the sunshine, beaches, outdoors and partying which makes Trinidad so much fun there is also a deeper spiritual and cultural side for one to enjoy.  Even if one is visiting just to admire the architecture work – it is a popular destination, ranked number five according to destination Trinidad for 2017.
